The department of Building and Safety issues all Building, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing permits for new construction and existing structures for commercial sites. Certificates of Occupancy are issued for new construction, as well as for the sale or rental of commercial properties.

The department of Planning and Zoning provides information to advise and guide public and private community decision makers in achieving the best possible development, redevelopment, housing rehabilitation, improvements, and preservation for the benefit of the Garden City community.
