Welcome to Garden City

"a great place to call home"

Garden City is nestled in the eastern region of Wayne County and offers prime location, cooperative government officials, and a diverse group of local businesses.  Combine all of this with an excellent educational system from kindergarten through college and you have "a great place to call home."

Neighborhoods

Well-kept, single-family, brick homes on tree-lined streets define a majority of the neighborhoods in Garden City.  Historical homes grace the town in addition to newly constructed subdivisions spread throughout the area.  Additionally, Garden City offers a Senior Living Complex and multiple styles of condominiums for the young executive.  Our residents take great pride in their homes and properties and many of our homeowners are multi-generational families.  This combination has effectively created the warm, stable and diverse community currently enjoyed by the residents or our city.

Recreation and Entertainment

Garden City is know for its exceptional public parks system.  When looking for a safe, well-manicured place to walk or enjoy the outdoors, Garden City Park, is a favorite destination for visitors and residents.  This 7-acre park features picnic shelters, a playground, softball diamonds, walking paths, slides, swings, and volleyball, as well as an indoor ice arena.

Garden City Community Center is committed to providing quality year around programs through the Parks and Recreation Department and offers adult and youth sporting activities, including soccer, basketball and ice hockey.

The city of Garden City is also the site of many annual events sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce.  These include the Wine Tasting Event, where the city honors the First Citizen, the Business Person of the Year and the Business Beautification Award.  The annual Dine & Dash, where residents enjoy "dashing" around Garden City in yellow busses sampling food from the area restaurants.  The downtown area is host to the Farmers' Market, as well as the annual SantaLand Parade, now in its 50th year.

Business and Commerce

All businesses add to a city's economic development and Garden City is fortunate to boast a diverse community business district.  Within the city's limit, the local automotive industry is represented by three major dealers: Ford, Chrysler and General Motors.  Additionally, a wide variety of small business opportunities in the area make it an ever-growing and interesting community.  With partnerships, between state and local governments and the Chamber of Commerce, businesses and companies may qualify for a number of different incentive programs that make a hug impact on the bottom line.  Retail shops range from jewelry, clothing, and hardware to home improvement; and professional businesses of all types are well represented.

The Chamber of Commerce goes beyond the norms! The chamber collaborates with many other local organizations to plan, sponsor and facilitate community events and programs that help to create strong, healthy business environment that is surrounded by optimism and execution.

The city's established downtown has seen many changes over the years and continues to adapt and prosper.  The Downtown Development Authority proudly presents projects like the Facade Improvement Program and the Site Improvement Program to assist local business owners.
